Secuirity Concerns

Yesterday I was browsing around Mininova for Ubuntu Torrents and this popped up:

Admittedly the image does loose some of it’s impact without the actual picture, but seeing as privacy is at the heart of this rant, I felt it was only fair…

How the hell did they do that? If I wasn’t so outraged I’d be impressed! I wasn’t logged into to Facebook, its possible I hadn’t been logged in that whole browsing session! As for whether its a coincidence that the profile picture they chose is my girlfriend’s rather than just a random friend I’m not sure. There’s a large part of me considering going back to read the Terms and Conditions of Facebook…

PS It took make ages to add that picture, It never used to be that hard…

Bi Annual Post

Well I haven’t been here for a while. My first year of Computer Sciene at Heriot Watt is over, and I don’t believe it. I’ve learned alot (apart from how to touch type). I now sleep with a Java manual under my pillow while having nightmares about the  development enviroment of Second Life.

I’ve been playing with Yahoo Pipes, as you can see on the left. Not quite sure how much of my life I want publicly available so we’ll see how it goes.

I still have some plans for this blog…

A hilarious joke…

There was an engineer, manager and programmer driving down a steep mountain road. The brakes failed and the car careened down the road out of control. Half way down the driver managed to stop the car by running it off the road and against some dirt on the side of the road, narrowly avoiding going over a cliff.

They all got out, shaken by their narrow escape from death, but otherwise unharmed. The manager said “To fix this problem we need to organize a committee, have meetings, and through a process of continuous improvement, develop a solution.”

The engineer said “No that would take too long, and besides that method never worked before. I have my trusty pen knife here and will take apart the brake system, isolate the problem and correct it.”

The programmer said “I think you’re both wrong! I think we should all push the car back up the hill and see if it happens again.”

Big Damn Heroes?

Recently I’ve been working very late at work so I haven’t had much time do anything as I’ve been sleeping during the day. I really got back into Firefly, so much so that this page really interests me.

Yesterday started the two week countdown for leaving to go to Heriot Watt and I’ve got alot of stuff to sort out. I’m pretty sure that I’ll need more than an EEE PC for a degree in Computer Science, so I’m looking into builging a new rig so far I’ve only picked the Motherboard, Processor and Graphics Card.

I’ve been playing the Bourne Conspiracy and some Halo 3 but I haven’t had time for much else.

The Commander Tim Cast Celebrated its 100th episode last week and Tech Snark is 50 this week!

Also I passed my driving theory test on Friday so I might manage to slip in the practical just to have a go before I leave.

Quite Important

So last Tuesday I got my exam results and they detirmined that I’m going to Heriot Watt Univeristy in Edinburgh. I don’t know why I left it till now to post this seeing as it is quite Important as I now have the next four years of my life vaguely planned out, which is nice.

Digital 60 Alice Competition

I couple of weeks ago I was told that my entry to the Digital 60 Alice Animation competion had won two prizes.

For some reason I forgot to mention it here.

The certificates arrived this morning. The files are big so I’ll just post the links.

Graduation

I just got back from my last ever day at Robert Gordons College. Yesterday I got my leaving certificatte and yearbook and last week I got my Leavers Hoodie.

Its weird to think that I’ll never see some of these people ever again, after seeing them pretty much every day for 8 years.

For those who I didn’t get the chance to say it to earlier, good luck, keep in touch.

Nokia N81

Recently I got a Nokia N81 8GB and its very nice.

I’m considering using it as my actual MP3 player because it has the space and its one less device to carry.  It syncs podcasts as well as music and video via Bluetooth, USB or Wifi so there’s several ways to connect to anything.

£175 on Ebay, bargain.

Going away

I’m going to London for the next couple of days to celebrate my grandmother’s 90th Birthday! It will be a nice break from GTA 4 which I’ve been heavily binging on recently and I still haven’t completed it.

The exams are over and now the waiting begins, I’m hoping to hear from a local business that they want to employ me so I’ll have something to do over the summer.

I’ve got a couple of “projects” lined up for when I get back from London I won’t say much (in case they fall through) but one involves Condemned for the Xbox 360 and lots of sugary drinks.
